Best College Classes

Our group has spent a cumulative of 15 years at Texas Tech University. In that time, we have all come across classes we have loved and despised. Here are a few things that made our favorite classes our favorites!

  • One thing that stands out are definitely the unique professors. The ones who are truly passionate about their subjects and educating students tend to be the classes we all looked forward to!
  • For group work, it is interesting to be divided up by the professor using quizzes or other methods that group you with new people who are different and have new ideas.
  • Another tactic is switching up your typical final. Instead of just taking a written test, some classes gave the option of acting or singing in place of the final. Of course, we also had to incorporate what we learned in class but it still made for an interesting experience!
  • Any class where the professor knew how to speak English CLEARLY!!
  • Hands on activities are also another bonus! It definatley mixes things up from the normal lecture that most classes have.
  • Classes that include information students will need to take with them into the real world is another bonus. As students, we get very sick of just doing busy work just for the sake of a few quiz grades. If we know that we can use what we learn later in life, we definitely pay attention and are much more appreciative.
  • Classes that give out reviews are great! From a student's point of view, it doesn't make the exam any easier; it just helps us to know exactly what the professor is expecting as well as what information was the most important and what was fluff.
  • Exams that are "user friendly" are also very important to students. It sometimes doesn't seem fair that professors evaluate students on how well they test instead of the information we are being tested over.
  • Smaller class sizes are very useful because they make students more accountable. It also is less intimidating which makes it easier to speak up or ask questions.
  • A favorite for every student are classes that do not take attendance. Although many professors use this tool to gage who is coming to class, not all of us need to come to every class. We are adults and it is up to us how much we need to be in the classroom.
